RACE TWO 4th December: Stybarrow Dodd
Start Thirlmere People’s Hall, 11 AM
Parking is limited, please car share as much as possible. Parking is available in the People’s Hall C
ar Park, the track connecting the A591 to the B5322 by Castle Rock Car Park and the main A591 – please park as close to the side of the road as possible and take extra care walking along this road.
This race is the toughest of the series and packs in 2297ft of climbing in only 4 miles. It is virtually an out and back to the summit of Stybarrow Dodd but visits the top of Sticks Pass on the way out as well. Last year, the race was run in deep snow and many people ran in spikes or crampons so come prepared for any weather conditions!
RACE THREE 8th January: SOB (Stile End, Outerside, Barrow)
Start location – Braithwaite Lodge, CA125ST (Same location as Coledale Horseshoe race) 11am
Parking is limited, please car share as much as possible. Parking is available on the old A66 which is a short 5 minute walk across the A66 to Braithwaite.
Our third race now starts with a run up from the cattle grid at the bottom of the Braithwaite Lodge track, past the lodge and onto the fell at the bottom of Barrow. Head right, traversing the bottom of Barrow to reach the stream crossing between Barrow and Stile End, climb up to join the main track on to Stile End and re-join the old route. You then head straight up the front of Stile End, descend quickly and make your way towards Outerside. Here there is a short flagged section to get you back on the track down to Barrow Door. A quick sprint up to Barrow and then it’s a flying long descent down the front of Barrow to finish back at Braithwaite lodge. It’s a 5 mile race with 1640ft of climbing and is a beautiful route.
RACE FOUR 29th January: Clough Head
Start Threlkeld Quarry, 11 AM
Parking is limited, please car share as much as possible. Parking will be clearly signposted in the quarry and there will be a £1 parking charge which will go towards the Threlkeld Quarry Road Management Scheme.
Our fourth race is a tough 5m route with a lot of climbing. The race starts in the quarry and heads straight out onto the fell to begin the climb up to Clough Head summit – a total of 1870ft of climbing in a little over 2 miles. From Clough Head summit, it’s a flying runnable descent to the rocky summit of White Pike then turn left and pick the best line down to the gate and the quad track. From here any route across the lower fellside back to the top of the quarry and the final sprint along the quarry tracks all the way to King Kong Climbing Wall’s workshop and the finish!
RACE FIVE 19th February: Loopy Latrigg
Registration and Start at Keswick Cricket Pavilion, Fitz Park. Registration opens at 9 am and race starts at 11am.
Due to the tree felling on Latrigg earlier this year – we have had to change our race route.
Our last race is the fastest and most runnable of them all. Beginning at Keswick Fitz Park, crossing over the road and onto Spooney Green Lane, the route now traverses the length of Latrigg to emerge near the eastern edge by Brundholme road. From here, a fast climb along the main quad track to Latrigg Car Park followed by a steep climb to Latrigg summit will have your lungs bursting. You then descend back to Latrigg Car Park before flying down to Spooney Green Lane and sprinting into Fitz Park to finish. Prizes will be presented after this race at Keswick Cricket Pavilion for individual winners and series winners.
